Cait Farrell with her work Picture: Shelley Corcoran
Artist and Art teacher Cait Farrell from Carrickedmond, is having her first solo art exhibition in Athlone Civic Centre, Athlone Library Atrium.
Cait Farrell studied BA in Art and Design and BA in Fine Art at G.M.I.T. She specialised in Ceramics but also gained experience of Painting, Photography, Printmaking, Textiles and Sculpture. She graduated from G.M.I.T in 2013.
She then worked as a part time Milliner making headpieces for family, neighbours, and friends.
In 2016 she decided to go back to college to pursue a career as an art educator. In 2018 she graduated from U.C.C and C.I.T with a Professional Masters of Education in Art, Craft and Design.
Cait's first solo art exhibition is inspired by her time in hospital, as she spent six weeks in hospital in Mullingar between March 2023 until May 2023.
All the artwork for the exhibition was made in hospital. She used paper bags that contained gifts, sliders from her bedroom and flowers from the garden. She utilised whatever materials she could find in the hospital. She works in a variety of mediums such as paint, markers, pencils and stampers.
Her exhibition will run until October 27.
The title of the exhibition is ‘hop-it-al’ as she used to call the hospital during her visit as it lightened the mood.
Cait hopes people enjoy her first solo art exhibition.
