Milestone for north Longford community as Abbeylara Community Garden is officially opened

Happy local children tested out the new equipment at the official opening of Abbeylara Community Garden on Friday, officiated at by Minister Heather Humphreys.

Abbeylara Tidy Towns Committee were delighted to welcome the Minister for Rural and Community Development, Heather Humphreys, TD and her colleagues, to Abbeylara for the official opening of the Abbeylara Community Garden on the Coole Road.

A big thank you to our CE Team and all those volunteers from the village who worked hard together with the Tidy Towns Committee to have the village and garden looking at its best for this great community event.

Thank you also to those who helped with refreshments and acted as stewards on what was a lovely sunny evening. We would also like to thank Fr. Michael Campbell for performing a blessing. Thank you to all those from Longford County Council who attended and also to the elected local representatives who were present.

Thank you very much to all those from near and far, who made the effort to come and participate, a great evening was had by all. We were especially pleased at the reaction of those who were visiting the garden for the first time.

A number of people commented that they had passed the garden many times, but they had not realised what a lovely space it is and that they would be stopping by to use it in the future.

It is a great amenity to have in the locality and we invite you all to visit and enjoy it.

Abbeylara crowned the Longford Junior ‘B’ champions

Goals at crucial stages of this entertaining encounter clinched the Junior ‘B’ Football Championship title for Abbeylara who got the better of a gallant Fr Manning Gaels side in the final at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Saturday evening.
