Lisryan Community recently scaled new heights in aid of Lisryan Tidy Village and Community Development and the Longford Branch of the Alzheimer Society of Ireland. A group of 28 volunteers met early on the morning of Saturday, September 16 to conquer Croagh Patrick.
For some it was their first time tackling what’s known as the Holy Mountain and for others it was a return journey. READ MORE BELOW PHOTO
The bus journey was filled with apprehension and nervous excitement as some didn’t know what to expect, but the craic was great. Once the mountain came into view there were a few gasps and mutters of serious disbelief.
The group started off in full sunshine together from the foot of the mountain and supported each other every step of the way regardless of their level of fitness. The weather was ideal and the views from the top proved to be sensational.
The sense of achievement from each and everyone of them on their return to our meeting point in Campbell’s pub (well they all deserved a well earned beverage at that point) was incredible, as was the sense of camaraderie between all, and the bond of new friendships made on the day.
It was a pure testament of the community of Lisryan and surrounding areas, communities which are second to none. The bus carried the tired but nonetheless happy and jovial group home to Lisryan where the night continued on.
The committee extends its sincere gratitude to all the volunteers who took part and for their exceptional contribution to the sponsorship money raised.
The committee works tirelessly to ensure the ever increasing insurance costs etc are met each year and also to ensure the village is kept to the standard which the residents deserve.
Also the money raised for Alzheimer’s will help all those families who are having to live with their loved ones who have succumbed to this horrible heartbreaking condition. Our thoughts and prayers are with all families affected by Alzheimer’s. There is great support available from this society, so if you have not already done so, you should reach out to them, they are there to help.
