An investigation has been launched this evening after a blaze ripped through a two storey house in Longford town, the Leader can reveal.

Several fire personnel and gardaí rushed to the scene in the Ardnacassa area of the county town after the alarm was raised at around 8:30pm.

The fire was eventually brought under control as fire crews battled to prevent the blaze from spreading to other properties either side of the affected house.

As our exclusive photographs show, the two storey dwelling was effectively gutted as a result of the incident.

No injuries have been reported, but the scene has since been cordoned off as gardaí launch an investigation as to how the exact cause of the fire.

"Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of a fire in Longford, which occurred tonight, Friday 15th September 2023 at approximately 8.30pm. No serious injuries have been reported at this time. The scene has been preserved for technical examination," said a garda spokesperson.

"No further information is available at this time. Investigations are ongoing."
