Longford bids sad farewell to true gentleman Pat Devaney who loved his family, faith and football

The late Pat Devaney, Ballaghgowla, Coolamber, Edgeworthstown, Longford

Its with much sadness we record the death of Pat Devaney of Ballaghgowla, Coolamber which occurred on Thursday morning last August 31 following a prolonged illness.

Beloved husband of Mary and dear father to Padraig, Deirdre and Niamh, Pat was a true gentleman who it was always a joy to meet and have a chat with.

Pat was predeceased by his parents Tom and Annie, infant son Martin and infant sister Margaret.

He loved his family, his faith and his football and was very loyal to Longford GAA and also to the Fine Gael party and served as chairman of the Sean MacEoin Branch in Granard for a number of years.

Pat reposed at Our Lady's Manor in Edgeworthstown on Friday evening, September 1 and large crowds passed through to say a fond farewell to him and to offer sympathy and support to his family and again on Saturday Boherquill church was packed for his funeral Mass. Pat was laid to rest in St Fintan's Cemetery, Boherquill.

We offer sincere sympathy to Mary, Padraig, Deirdre and Niamh, to his brother Owen, sisters Bella, Ann, Marie, Claire, Nuala and Susan (Murtagh), son in law Darren Gallagher, brothers-in-law, sister-in-law, nephews, nieces, cousins, neighbours and his many dear friends.

May he rest in peace.
