Longford town's Main Street
A manhunt is underway after an armed robbery in Longford town yesterday, the Leader can reveal.
A masked robber entered a business premises in the county town at around 10am and produced a knife, demanding cash.
The Leader understands the raider took a range of items from inside the store and escaped on foot a short time later.
Uniformed officers and detectives arrived on the scene soon afterwards and immediately began a probe into what occurred.
It's believed the male suspect, who was acting alone, had been spotted lurking around outside the business premises in question for a period of time before yesterday's incident.
In a statement, gardaí had launched an investigation into the events of yesterday morning.
"Gardaí are investigating a robbery in Longford town at a retail premises that occurred on the 15th August 2023 at approximately 10am.
"A number of items were taken from the premises.
"No injuries have been reported and no arrests have been made.
"Investigations are ongoing."
