Two Longford retail stores evacuated with Garda cordons in place

Two Longford retail stores have been evacuated this evening and gardaí have sealed off the areas around the outlets.

It is understood that customers and staff of both Dunnes Stores and Tesco in Longford town were evacuated. 

One eye witness, shopping in Tesco at Longford Centre, said everyone was requested to leave the store immediately.

Another referred to hearing Garda cars with their sirens on, as they made their way to the scene. 

There is a garda presence at both locations with access to the car parks of both retail outlets being restricted. 

The reason for the evacuation his not yet known.

Longford Leader / Longford Live has contacted the Garda press office in relation to the incident and is awaiting official comment.
