Gardaí are on the hunt for a brazen thief who entered a GAA grounds in Co Longford last night to steal a car along with a string of personal items from players' bags during the course of a match.

The incident took place at Edgeworthstown's Devine Park shortly after 7pm.

It's understood a male suspect entered the grounds and dressing rooms while a number of players from Delvin and Mostrim took part in a hurling challenge match.

The raider subsequently took a number of personal items from training bags and car keys belonging to a 10 registered black  VW Golf.

The car was later found in Longford town some five hours later and has since underwent a technical examination.

Detectives are hoping those enquiries will prove crucial in identifying and bringing about an arrest.

The Leader also understands CCTV footage is currently being examined as part of that investigation.
