Gardaí are carrying out enquiries into an allegation that a large amount of gold reserves belonging to the National Party has been stolen.

"An Garda Síochána is carrying out enquiries into an allegation of theft from a premises in Dublin 4," a garda spokesperson confirmed.

However, they added that An Garda Síochána does not comment on third party statements or on named individuals.

It has been reported that gold reserves estimated to be worth a six-figure sum belonging to the National Party, have been removed from its safe fault in Dublin.
