In the 10 years of Cruthú Arts Festival the annual gathering has created a plethora of remarkable memorable moments.
Some ephemeral; like The Trinitones performances in the crypt of St Mel's Cathedral, some enduring; like the street art dotted around the county town.
The festival has enriched the artistic landscape of the county in the last decade and has attracted thousands of visitors to the county over its lifespan.
Celebrating its landmark tenth edition this vibrant festival is renowned for showcasing artistic talent within the community and fostering engagement with diverse art forms. The 2023 line up promises an exciting and varied programme of events.
Gene Rhatigan, Festival Chairperson, is enthused about this year's schedule: “Embrace the magic of creativity and join us as we celebrate a decade of art and community at the Cruthú Arts Festival. Get ready for an unforgettable journey through diverse art forms, film screenings, captivating performances, and inspiring stories.”
Selecting highlights from the dense programme is a tough ask. The festival will feature a captivating screening “A Night at the Pictures”. This features five short films introduced by writers and directors at the Backstage Theatre, providing a platform for talented filmmakers to showcase their creative storytelling.
South Longford cyclists raise €5,000 in support of Phyllis Baker’s ABI Ireland fundraising efforts
A 130 kilometres cycle organised by Darren Mulledy has raised €5,000 in support of Phyllis Baker’s fundraising efforts for Acquired Brain Injury (ABI) Ireland.
Music enthusiasts can look forward to a mesmerizing night of live performances at the historic St Mel’s Cathedral and St John's Church among others, adding a touch of grandeur to the festival.
The festival promises a blend of acts and exciting new additions, ensuring a memorable celebration of artistry, community engagement, and cultural enrichment.
The headlines for the weekend are Hermitage Green, a band of international renown who have close links with Longford.
Another thrilling evening will be in the company of Aindrias de Staic Presents: The Latchikos. This is a raucous mix of virtuoso violin, spoken word and raw Gaelic beats with humour and gusto on Friday, July 21 at 5pm and 8pm for a one hour performance starting at Connolly Barracks.
The Enchanted Island is a promenade play that takes us on the legendary vanishing Island Hy-Brazil and invites the audience for a walk with the fairies.
The Strasbourg Youth Symphony Orchestra will perform a full concert orchestra in St Mel’s Cathedral.
There are a range of other events and offerings from Tuesday, July 18 to Sunday, July 23.
The organising team, led by Chairperson Gene Rhatigan and Festival Manager Lee Williamson, are dedicated to providing a safe and secure environment for all who attend.
