Man (20s) arrested as gardaí seize over €80k of cocaine in major Longford drugs seizure

A man has been arrested and over €80,000 worth of cocaine seized in a major drugs seizure in Longford town, the Leader can exclusively reveal.
Specialist officers connected to Longford's Divisional Drugs Unit made the discovery during a planned search operation at a house in Longford town on Wednesday morning.
A male, aged in his late 20s and from the Longford area, was arrested at the scene and taken to Longford garda station for questioning.
He has since been released with a file now expected to be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) to determine what charges, if any can be brought as part of the investigation.
The seizure is being seen as a major coup for Longford's Divisional Drugs Unit who, in recent weeks, have carried out and been successful with a number of planned operations targeting organised drug dealing in the Longford area.
"Gardaí in the Divisional Drug unit in Longford carried out a search under warrant at a residential property in Townspark, Longford on Wednesday morning 31st May, 2023," said a garda spokesperson.
"During the course of the search cocaine with an estimated street value in excess of €80,000 was seized one man arrested.
"The man, late 20s was detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984 at a Garda station in the Longford District.
"He has since been released without charge and a file will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions.
"Investigations ongoing."
