Longford County Council chiefs are coming under mounting pressure to "urgently clarify" mooted government plans to open a proposed refugee centre in Longford town.
It's understood plans are afoot to house an undisclosed number of Interntional Protection (IP) applicants at a location in the county town.
In a statement released by Longford Municipal District Cathaoirleach Cllr Gerry Hagan and signed by the district's six other elected members, county council bosses are being urged to address the matter without delay.
"It has been brought to our attention, that a premises has been identified in Longford Town, for the purpose of accommodating IP Applicants," read the statement.
"As a collective group, we have grave concerns regarding this issue.
"We are therefore seeking an urgent meeting with the Chief Executive of Longford County Council to clarify this situation."
