Longford community saddened by death of pleasant lady who ran local post office for many years

Late Phyllis Byrne, Dring Post Office, Dring, Longford
There was deep regret in Mullinalaghta and north Longford following the news of the passing of Phyllis Byrne, Dring, on Wednesday, April 19, in Laurel Lodge nursing home, Longford town where she had been resident for the past year.
Phyllis, who was in her ninety-third year, was the daughter of the late Conor and Mary Byrne, Dring, and continued the family tradition of running the local post office along with her late brothers Conor and Vincent until its closure on their retirement some years ago.
The Byrne family were well-known in the Mullinalaghta area and provided great service and support to all in the parish down through the years, both in the role that Vincent and Conor played as postmen and in the warm and courteous service that Phyllis provided in the post office and shop.
Phyllis was of a pleasant and friendly nature and her gentle presence will be much missed in the area.
She was predeceased by her parents, her sisters Kay Denton, Mary Mimnagh, and Nan Byrne, her brothers Conor, Vincent and Joseph, and her niece.
She is survived by her sister Tessie McGoldrick, Dring, her sister-in-law Agnes, nephews Joseph and Conor, neighbours and friends, to whom we offer our sincere sympathies.
Her funeral took place in St Joseph’s Church, Purth on Friday, April 21 at noon followed by interment in the adjoining cemetery. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a h-anam.
