Longford garda station
A man and a woman have been arrested after gardaí recovered cocaine and cash during a search of a house in Longford town, the Leader can reveal.
Officers from Longford's Divisional Drugs Unit retrieved around €500 worth of cocaine and money totalling €2,250 during the search of a property in the county town on Wednesday morning.
It's been revealed the search, which was planned, took place under the auspices of Operation Tara, targeting the supply and distribution of illicit drugs.
A man and a woman were arrested at the scene and taken to Longford garda station for questioning before being released without charge.
"As part of Operation Tara, Gardaí from Longford Divisional Drugs Unit searched a residence in the Longford Town area on the 19th of April 2023," said a garda spokesman.
"In the course of the search Gardaí recovered a quantity of suspected cocaine worth approximately €500 and €2,250 in cash.
"Two persons, a man aged in his 20s and a woman aged in her late teens were arrested in relation to this incident. Both were since released without charge pending file to the DPP."
The Leader understands both suspects are from Longford town and known to gardaí.
It's expected that once the file is sent to the DPP's office, the state's prosecution office will determine what charges, if any, can be brought against the pair.
