The six couples who will be taking part on Friday
The choice of the Mr & Mrs format for the St Brigid's event was based on how much fun it would be: “As a small club with a small catchment we only run one fundraiser each year, so we make sure they are appealing as possible,” Shane tells, “There have been a lot of other events run around the county, but the Mr & Mrs format is one that hasn't been staged in a while. It's good for banter.”
Choosing the right participants is vital: “If you get a couple that is a little bit unconventional, particularly in a pub setting where you can have a couple of drinks, it will definitely be good craic.”
The Mr & Mrs Fundraiser is on Friday, April 14th and will see six popular couples competing for the title: “We have a good spread across the parish; a couple from Clondra, a couple from Kilashee and a couple from Derryadd. We've even drafted in a politician. We have both young and old and one of our footballers is also on the line up.”
Couples taking part are; Fidelma and Barry Cox; Veronica and Justin Gouldsbury; Caroline and Johnny Casey; Niamh Donlon and Joe Flaherty; Rebecca Madden and Shane Cosgrove; and Deirdre and James Edgeworth.
The host on the night, Benny O'Brien, will keep matters moving briskly along with plenty of laughs on the way, as the six couples bravely put their knowledge of each other to the test.
“Entertainment is the key. We have thrown in a novelty round. The couple will work in teams of two which will add a bit of spice. Other than that it is the same as the TV show, the paddle round, with the two booths is a great one on the TV. I believe in the pub setting it will be even better,” Shane tells.
The club fundraiser says the event should be very popular: “It’s a bit of fun really and while it’s a fundraiser for St Bridget's, it’s a real community event.”
The participating couple will have a chance for some real prizes: “Kilronan Castle Hotel have put up a prize for the lucky couple, while the runners ups will have a his and hers beauty treatment. Everyone will get the Mr & Mrs mugs,” Shane says, sounding very much like the game show host.
Tickets are on sale for this event from all committee members and local outlets, tickets are priced at €15, door prize and raffle on the night, followed by music with a romantic flavour.
If you feel like a good night’s entertainment then the Mr & Mrs Competition will take place in The Chestnut Tree this Friday, April 14.
