Longford's Ulster Bank offices
There was a steady trickle of customers through the doors of Longford's Ulster Bank branch on Friday as the financial institution passed another milestone on the road to full closure.
As of last Friday Ulster Bank customers are no longer able to carry out in-branch transactions, other than those related to account closures.
Ulster Bank's 63 remaining branches in the Republic will officially close its doors on April 21 of this year as the bank winds down its operations in Ireland.
The bank's services through An Post outlets also ended on Friday. However, it will for now continue to be possible for customers to conduct transactions online.
A planning application by Longford Ulster Bank to progress with a number of alterations to the premises on the county town's Main Street have been held up because of an “incomplete application”.
Longford County Council Planners indicated that the application was incomplete, meaning it will now have to be resubmitted.
Planning permission was sought to carry out external and internal works at the Longford town bank premises.
The proposed plans include the removal of the outdoor ATM which will be in-filled with stone to match the existing wall.
The bank also sought permission to remove blue lettering and signage from the facade of the building. The remaining aspects of the planned works include the removal of ATMs in stud walls, loose furniture and merchandise on all floors.
