A man who was in an argument with his wife when Gardai intervened is being given an opportunity to avoid a conviction by making a charity donation.

Eduards Griss (46) of 18 Auburn Lodge, Prospect Wood, Longford was before Longford District Court charged with engaging in threatening and abusive behaviour on August 31 last.

The incident occurred at 5:30pm when officers arrived at the Prospect Wood estate where they encountered a male in an intoxicated condition.

The defendant was “shouting and acting in an aggressive manner” and when officers spoke to Mr Griss he became more aggressive. The defendant was arrested and brought to Longford Garda Station.

Solicitor Fiona Baxter pointed out that the defendant has not come to any adverse attention since the matter first came before the court. Inspector David Jordan confirmed there have been no incidents since.

Judge Bernadette Owens said if the defendant attended court on April 18 with €200 for the Court Poor Box she would deal with the matter by way of a probation order.
