Ambassadors unveiled as Longford prepares to stage tenth Darkness Into Light walk for Pieta

The Longford Darkness Into Light Walk 2023 was officially launched on Thursday evening last in Longford Rugby Club.

This year, the Longford Darkness Into Light event is a little more special as it is the tenth year for the event to be held in the county. READ MORE BELOW PHOTO

Darkness Into Light, supported by Electric Ireland, takes place at 4.15am on the morning of Saturday, May 6.

The Longford town committee, headed up by chairperson Thomas Delaney and secretary Francesca Pawelczyk, is delighted to have Aisling Cosgrove and Laura Kenny (Longford Slashers: All-Ireland Intermediate Club Championship Winners) and Kofi Appiah and Nevlonne Dampare (K Muni & ND: Third place Eurovision 2023 hopefuls) as Local Ambassadors for Darkness Into Light 2023.

Suicide and self-harm continue to be a serious problem throughout Longford and Ireland. Communities are encouraged to work together to help raise funds to ensure Pieta can continue to provide their vital and free services across the country.

Last year saw the first official in-person Darkness Into Light events since 2019.

Worldwide, over 115,000 people took part, and approximately 1,200 people participated in Longford.

Committee members of the Longford Town and Ballymahon venues are encouraging the local community to sign up for Darkness Into Light 2023 as they would love to see that number go up again this year.

Each committee would like to thank everyone who helps make the events a success, from local supporters who provide much needed provisions, to the volunteers who give of their time so generously.
