A man is to stand trial charged with allowing over €6,000 to be assigned to a bank account while aware it was the proceeds of crime.

Twenty-year-old Gift Osabuehien, 25 Pairc Na Habhainn, Edgeworthstown, Co Longford, was served with a book of evidence at last week's sitting of Longford District Court charged with the alleged offence on April 8, 2021.

That charge alleges Mr Osabuehien at an address within the State did engage in “converting”, “transferring”, “handling”, “acquiring” “possessing” or “using” property of criminal conduct amounting to €6,400 to be credited to another individual's account while knowing the property was the proceeds of criminal conduct.

The single charge relates to Section 7 of the Criminal Justice (Money Laundering & Terrorist Financing) Act.

Mr Osabuehien was given the alibi warning by Judge Bernadette Owens who told him of his obligations to inform the prosecution of any witnesses he might call if relying on an alibi defence.

Mr Osabuehien was remanded on continuing bail to appear back before a sitting of Longford Circuit Criminal Court on May 9.
