Learn to plough from scratch at Longford Ploughing novice match in Granard

Learn to plough from scratch at the Longford Ploughing novice match on Saturday, March 18 at 12 noon, on a site kindly provided by Luke Bogue, at Robinstown, Granard (Eircode  N39 T289).

Starting at 12 noon this event focuses on introducing learners to ploughing. The initiative includes one to one practical ploughing skills from setting your plough correctly to maintenance & care for your plough and what’s involved in completing a plot to NPA rules.

This annual novice event has been very successful for young farmers since it was first organised by Longford Ploughing in 1986. 

Ploughing members are looking forward to sharing their time, tractors and ploughs with apprentices again, ahead of the big Ploughing Championships on Sunday, March 26. 

Participants must present a learner’s permit or driving licence on Saturday, March 18. The best performer on the day, qualifies to represent County Longford in the Novice Class at the National Ploughing Championships in Ratheniska, on September 19 - 21. Free access to the exhibition each day is included for next Saturday's star pupil.

Countdown underway to eagerly anticipated Longford Ploughing Championships in Granard

All eyes will be on the north Longford town of Granard on Sunday, March 26 as the county ploughing championships returns in style.

The Novice course fee is €10 and this includes hot and healthy refreshments compliments of Longford Ploughing Association.

Candidates may bring their own tractor and plough or one can be provided by contacting us in advance.
