Organisers of Longford Daffodil Day have appealed for support as they prepare to take to the streets, to raise crucial funds for cancer patients.
The Irish Cancer Society’s Daffodil Day, the day we take back from cancer, takes place on Friday March 24.
Communities across Ireland including in Longford will once again turn daffodil yellow as they take to the streets to raise funds and give hope to cancer patients and their families.
The Society’s flagship fundraiser funds crucial support services for people affected by cancer in Longford, as well as lifesaving cancer research.
Public support is crucial according to Noeleen McTaggart, the new Daffodil Day coordinator in Longford Town who is urging locals to get involved this Daffodil Day.
“The people of Longford have always been generous in their support of Daffodil Day, but with more people being diagnosed with cancer, we need to ramp up our efforts to ensure that everyone affected by cancer in Longford gets the help they need.
“Not only will donations fund vital local services like free counselling and Night Nursing, but also cancer research to help more people survive cancer. Please help us by doing what you can to be part of this great fundraising event on March 24,” Noeleen said.
In 2022 alone, 201 free counselling sessions were provided to people in Co Longford while 116 nights of Night Nursing were delivered to allow cancer patients to spend their final days at home surrounded by their loved ones.
Across Longford more than 100 people were helped by the Irish Cancer Society Support Line and Daffodil Centres.
