Longford County Council planners are set to make a decision on a application regarding quarrying in Killoe.

The application by Blessington Stone & Concrete Plant Hire (Rhyne Rock) relates to their site at Rhine, Killoe, Longford.

The development covers a total area of 18.6 hectares. It relates to the extraction of rock by blasting means down to a level of 20mOD from an area of approximately 14.2 hectares.

The application also covers the erection of a concrete batching plant, processing plant, block yard, storage sheds, workshop, office buildings, weighbridge, wheelwash, settlement lagoon and all other associated ancillary facilities at the proposed manufacturing area of approximately 2.1 hectares.

Also for consideration is landscaping consisting of planted berms surrounding the entrance and access road from the public road to the manufacturing area and the landscaping and restoration of the site on completion of extractions.

The planning permission is for a 25-year period. The planning application is accompanied by an Environmental Impact Assessment Report. The submission was made in mid January with the expected decision day March 15.
