PICTURES | Longford's Spiral Tree plays host to Midlands Polish Community 'Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity' gig

Every year, on the last weekend of January, Midlands Polish Community CLG supports the biggest Polish fundraising event, which was originally established 31 years ago in Poland by setting up the Great Orchestra of Christmas Charity Foundation (GOCC Foundation, WOSP Foundation in Polish).

GOCC raise   funds   to   buy   modern   equipment   for   public  hospitals  in  Poland and  focus  on  improving  conditions in paediatric and neonatal hospitals as well as finance eight  medical  initiatives  and  one  educational  project,  provide  equipment  for  medics  battling  coronavirus  and  engage in other charitable projects.

Polish communities around the world join WOSP Foundation to create a ‘Grand Finale’ on Sunday, the last weekend in January.

There is lot of music and singing, first aid presentations, charity runs and many other activities. Midlands Polish Community CLG organized a charity concert in Athlone Springs Hotel on Sunday, January 29 and invited two Polish rock bands based in Ireland – ‘By The Way’ and ‘Rock-n-Grants’ band to perform that afternoon as well as two very well-known Polish actors and singers who had flown from Poland to support the whole event.

GOCC fundraising event is very well known among Polish community and many Polish migrants support the Foundation and its works. It is also a great time to get together and have fun.
