Longford/Westmeath FG candidate says lump sum payments will help with cost-of-living expenses

As part of Budget 2025, four key cost of living lump sum payments will be delivered this week to families in Longford, a Fine Gael General Election Candidate has said.

These payments are part of a broader package of ten lump sum payments scheduled before Christmas, aimed at easing the strain on families, pensioners, carers, and people with disabilities across the country.

Senator Micheál Carrigy emphasised the impact of these payments.

“Next week’s payments couldn’t come at a better time. We’re putting real money into the hands of families and individuals across Longford and the country, ahead of the winter season.

“It starts with 678,000 families who will see a double child benefit payment hit their accounts this Tuesday — helping to support over 1.2 million children right across the country.

“On top of that, over 400,000 households who rely on the fuel allowance will receive a €300 lump sum to help with heating bills as winter approaches. That’s immediate support to help families keep their homes warm this winter.

“For working families, a €400 lump sum payment will go to 46,000 households currently on the working family payment. For 213,000 people with disabilities, a €400 disability support payment will bring crucial support to help with the rising costs they face daily.

“These payments are about putting money straight into people in Longford’s pockets when it matters most. They’ll be delivered alongside each person’s regular payments, ensuring that everyone feels that immediate relief.

“And this is just the start - over the next few weeks, we’re rolling out five more lump sums, including a €400 carer’s support payment, another double child benefit payment, and the Christmas bonus in early December.

“These payments are designed to give real, tangible relief to households who need it, providing a much-needed cushion as they face the pressures of the winter months.
