Gardaí have seized cash from a house in Longford town as part of an ongoing investigation into the activities of organised crime, the Leader can reveal.

Detectives made the discovery during a planned operation earlier today (Friday).

News of the seizure comes less than 24 hours after the Leader broke details of how gardaí retrieved almost €30,000 in cash during the search of two houses in Longford town on Wednesday.

A woman in her forties was arrested and later released without charge ahead of a file being sent to the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

The Leader understands the search carried out today is centred on an entirely separate investigation.

"As part of an ongoing investigation Gardaí searched a house in Longford town today, 28th April 2023," said a garda spokesperson.

"A sum of cash was seized during the course of the search.

"There are no arrests at this time. Investigations are ongoing."
