Longford open 2017 season away to Kildare

Longford senior football team manager Denis Connerton.

Longford senior footballers will open the 2017 season on Sunday January 8 away to Kildare in Round 1 of the O’Byrne Cup, followed by home games in Group 2 against Offaly on Wednesday night January 11 and IT Carlow on Sunday January 15.

O’Byrne Cup Senior Football Tournament 2017

Depending on the strength of the team that manager Denis Connerton and his mentors plan to field in the build up to the National League Division 3 campaign, Longford might be in the shake up for O’Byrne Cup honours as was the case in 2016 when they beat Dublin in the semi-final but lost out to Meath in the title decider at Pairc Tailteann, Navan.

Should Longford succeed in winning the group in the forthcoming Leinster O’Byrne Cup, the reward will be a home game in the semi-final against the qualifiers from Group 1 - Dublin, Wexford, DCU or UCD.

County hurlers in Kehoe Cup

The Longford senior hurlers will prepare for the 2017 National League Division 3B campaign with a couple of games in the Kehoe Cup, both at home against Maynooth University on Sunday January 22 and Louth on Sunday January 29, in their quest to reach the final of the Leinster tournament.
