It’s all systems go for the annual Longford Race Day at Punchestown which takes place this year on April 24 next.
Now in its 11th year the event has gone from strength to strength since its inception in 2002, and has proved to be one of the most successful fundraising initiatives for the local county board having secured a massive €1.25m over the past 11 years.
Chairman, Longford County Board, Brendan Gilmore said this year’s event would be sponsored by RSM Grant and he pointed to the fact that he was looking forward to “another successful year ahead” in 2013.
“The race day has proved very successful for Longford County Board and we are confident that we will have another successful year again this year,” Mr Gilmore said. “It is especially important this year, as this is the year of The Gathering, and race day is always a great gathering of people from Longford who live in America, Dublin and London. Everyone meets up in a social setting and it really is a fantastic day out.”
Tickets for the event are €100, and posters also ready, so as Mr Gilmore said, it really is “all systems go”. “Tickets are available from all clubs and from members of the executive of Longford County Board,” he added. “I would like to encourage everyone to come on board this year; the support is for a great cause and people are guaranteed to have a great day out.”
The County Board Chairman also pointed out that Longford GAA’s Gathering which will coninside with the county’s Gathering Ireland 2013 takes place on May 5 next at Pearse Park in Longford. “It is going to be another great ocasion and we are looking forward to welcoming back all former Longford players on that day,” he smiled. “We will have more details about that shortly.”
