In the semi-final of the competition their opponents are Wexford and the game is scheduled for Portlaoise on Wednesday, March 20th at 7.30pm. Commiserations to Longford Senior team and management on suffering another heart-breaking league defeat, this time against Galway at Pearse Park on Sunday last and wishing all concerned a change of fortune against Derry in Celtic Park on Saturday evening next.
BALLYMAHON: Our competitive leagues started last weekend with good wins for both the reserve league 2 and 3 sides. The reserve league 2 side had a good win on Sunday in Cashel while the RL3 side won on Saturday evening in Ballymore. Next weekend sees both RL2 and RL3 sides in action again. RL2 will be on Saturday evening at home against Carrickedmond while RL3 will be on Monday against Cashel in Ballymahon. A minor league game v Southern Gaels on Sunday next. Reminder to all supporters that the minor club are running an Aintree Grand National draw. Tickets 2 euro or 3 for 5 euro. Hard luck to the Longford team in the Galway game and to clubman Kevin Diffley who had a fine game. Well done to the youngsters from St. Matthews on their half-time performance. GRANARD ST. MARY’S: ‘The Granard GAA Story 125 Years’ - Next Friday, the 15th March will be a big night for St. Mary’s Granard G.F.C. and all our players, members and supporters (past and present) over the years. At 7pm in our clubhouse we will launch a history of the GAA in Granard from 1888 to the present day. We have called the book ‘The Granard GAA Story 125 years’ and we believe it will be of interest to everyone (and their families) who have had any connection with our club over the years. The book is based on newspaper reports (mainly from the Longford Leader) and covers both the good and not so good times for the GAA in Granard with team photos from 1915 to 2012. It is a hardback book with 570 pages and will be selling at 25 euro each. The book will go on sale at 6.30pm on Friday in our clubhouse and everyone is invited to attend. There will be a few readings of extracts and poems included in the book on the night along with a few performances from our Scor representatives. The speeches will be followed by light refreshments. The book will be on sale in various shops around the parish from next Saturday on. We are looking for help running things on Friday night and anyone in a position to help out should contact Andrew Gettings, Seamus Finnan or Noel Kelly. Scor: Our set dancers put on a great performance in the Leinster semi-finals last Saturday night in The Downs GAA clubhouse and qualified for the Leinster final. Well done to Breda Harkin, Brian Harkin, Ciara Harkin, Maria Farrell, Rosemary Connolly, Caroline Clarke, Joe and Emma Regan on their great achievement, they are a credit to St. Mary’s. Reserve Lge Div 2: We played our first game of 2013 in the Reserve Lge Division 2 in Clonbonny last Saturday when we went under to Rathcline by 2-10 to 0-11. We were in the hunt until about 10 mins to go. Rathcline upped the pace and we faded out of the game. It was great to see a few players back in action after missing a year or two and we lined out as follows, Eoghan Mallon, Mark Connell, Jody Connolly, Thomas Devaney, Edmund Kelly (0-1), Declan Murphy, Pat McGivney, David Hynes (0-4), Michael Murray, Derek Sheridan, Liam O’Rourke (capt) (0-1), Paul Smyth (0-2), Brian Harkin (0-3), Gary Carroll, Declan Hynes. Subs were Mick McDonagh, Mark Tully, Conor Mulligan, Andrei Bogdan, Adam Cunningham, Padraig Devaney. Glotto: There was no winner of last weeks Glotto and the numbers drawn were 2, 14, 23 and 29. Longford U-21s: Well done to the Longford U-21 team on their great win over hot favourites, Dublin in the Leinster Championship in Parnell Park last Wednesday. It was great to be there to cheer the lads on and hopefully there will be a big Longford support to shout on the lads against Wexford in the semi-final in Portlaoise on Wednesday March 20th. KILLOE YOUNG EMMETS: Hard luck to our figure dancers who represented the club in the Leinster semi-final of the senior Scor competition on Friday night last in Mullingar. They were unlucky to lose out on a place in the Leinster final. The club also wish to thank Brian Collum and Rory Carty who provided music for the group on the night and also to Marion Kiernan for her assistance in preparing the dancers for this event. Congrats to our County U-21 team on a great victory over Dublin in the Leinster championship last Wednesday evening week. This was a fantastic performance and a great occasion for the Emmet Og Club with 8 of our U-21 players involved. Best of luck to this team in the remainder of the Championship. Hard luck to the Longford senior team on another unlucky defeat against Galway on Sunday last in Division 2 of the National Football league. Our club playing season kicked-off at Monaduff on Saturday evening last with a hard fought victory for our Reserve 1 team in their league meeting with Fr. Manning Gaels. This was a game that swayed both ways but three late points from Denis McGoldrick, Eugene Clarke and David Mimnagh secured victory for Killoe on a score of 0-13 to 2 -4. Both our Reserve 1 and reserve 3 teams are in action next weekend. See fixtures for times and venues. Training for all members continues on Wednesday and Friday evenings in Cullyfad at 8.30pm. Membership is now over due from anyone who has not paid. Club calendars featuring memories from our record breaking year in 2012 are still on sale in local shops with all proceeds going directly to the club. The 5 and 10K fun runs on Sunday the 24th March are fast approaching. Registration is on the morning from 10.30am with the run commencing at midday from the clubhouse. Entry is priced at 10 euro for adults and 5 euro for under 16’s. Refreshments will be served afterwards in the clubhouse. This is an officially recognised run by Athletics Ireland who have measured and approved the route. All support is welcome so why not come along and run, jog walk or skip the route with all funds raised going to the club. The club extends its best wishes to the Yew Tree players on their up coming performance of the Chastitute which is due to take place over the weekend of the 23rd March.
