In the other games played in Division 1 of the Longford Leader sponsored All County Football League last weekend there were wins for Clonguish, Dromard and Fr. Manning Gaels.
Dromard went on a scoring spree to hammer Ardagh by the landslide margin of 33 points (7-16 to 0-4) at Pairc na nGael on Saturday evening and the rampant home side were far too strong for a very poor St. Patrick’s outfit who would appear to be facing a serious struggle in the senior championship this year.
Former Kenagh player Darren Carberry scored the goal for his new club Clonguish in their convincing 1-12 to 0-8 victory over Colmcille at Allen Park while also on Friday night Fr. Manning Gaels experienced little difficulty in beating Ballymahon at the Monaduff grounds.
Padraig Gill (2), Podge Gill and David Cassidy got the goals as the Drumlish/Ballinamuck side cruised to a most emphatic 4-12 to 0-8 win. And on the evidence of this heavy defeat it looks as though Ballymahon are also going to struggle in the top flight this season despite a favourable first round meeting against Ardagh in the county championship.
In Division 2 of the All County League (sponsored by Farrell Agri Supplies, Lanesboro) Cashel scored a comprehensive 4-7 to 1-4 win against the 2013 Junior champions Young Grattans at Pairc Chiaran on Friday night.
The new Cashel manager is none other than Sean Connolly’s clubman Ciaran Fox, who guided Dromard to the senior championship final last year and the Longford minors to Leinster Championship glory in 2010. Fox is a very good appointment for the south Longford club in their quest for intermediate championship honours this season.
There were other wins in Division 2 of the All County League on Saturday evening last for Rathcline (v Legan); Carrickedmond (v Sean Connolly’s), Killashee (v Kenagh) and Ballymore (v Moydow).
