Killoe strongly fancied to retain U-21 ‘A’ title

Under-21 ‘A’ Football Championship Final

Backboned by seven members of their senior team who started in the county final replay win over Longford Slashers, Killoe must be strongly fancied to retain the U-21 ‘A’ Championship title when they take on neighbouring rivals Fr. Manning Gaels in the decider at Maguire Park in Ballinalee on Sunday next.

Padraig McCormack, Mark Hughes, Daniel Mimnagh, Paddy Thompson, Simon Kiernan, Daniel Keogh and Darragh Bennett will be leading the charge for another U-21 success, along with Ronan Keogh and Paddy Hughes and some other members of the senior squad, and the Drumlish/Ballinamuck opposition are clearly facing a very tough task.

But Fr. Manning Gaels will be going all out in a determined attempt to gain revenge for their 2-9 to 0-8 defeat by Killoe in last year’s U-21 ‘A’ Championship final in their quest to win this competition for the first time since 1999 and their key players are Diarmuid Cooney, Dylan Quinn, James Noonan, Darren Farrelly and goalkeeper Paddy Collum.

The Gaels also had to settle for second best in the 2010 U-21 A’ title decider, losing out to Abbeylara 1-9 to 0-7, and are very much the underdogs on this occasion against a powerful Young Emmets side packed with senior experience. Therefore, it will be a big surprise if the Killoe U-21 footballers fail to emerge victorious in the county final for the second year in succession.
