The ladies minor B football championship final was played at Leo Casey Park, Ballymahon on Sunday last and resulted in a victory for Carrickedmond over Mostrim.
Mostrim opened the scoring with a point from Eimear Monaghan, Carrickedmond followed three minutes later with a point from Niamh Feeney. Mostrim were then awarded a penalty in the 8th minute which was converted by Loren Kate Logan and Eimear Monaghan added two further points with L K Logan adding a further point. Carrick got a goal in the 23rd minute and one minute later they found the back of the Mostrim net again which left the sides level at the break, 2-1 to 1-4.
On the changeover Carrickedmond came out with all guns blazing as they dominated most of the second half. Sarah Shannon pointed after two minutes and Mary Kate Farrell followed with a point and five minutes later she struck for a goal. Niamh Feeney then scored two points in quick succession to increase the lead.
But Carrick’s Sarah Shannon was sin binned in the 49th minute and this gave Mostrim a lifeline. Eimear Monaghan got Mostrim’s first score of the second half, a point after 51 minutes. Shauna Mulhall got Carrickedmond’s last score, a point, and into injury-time Mostrim closed the gap with a goal from Eimear Monaghan and a point from Joanne Whyte but their comeback came too late.
