GRANARD ST. MARY’S: We have dancers, singer and actors taking part in Scor in Ballinamuck at 8pm on the 1st March and we wish them the best of luck. Next week’s jackpot is 4500 euro. ‘The Granard GAA Story - 125 years’, a book on the GAA in Granard from 1888 to the present day is with the printers at the moment and we intend to launch it in our clubhouse on the 15th March at 7pm. Everyone is welcome to attend and the book will be on sale that evening at 25 euro each. When we get our hands on the book, we will be able to find out what it will cost to post abroad to England, U.S.A., Australia or anywhere else we need to. KILLASHEE ST. BRIGID’S: Our Dinner Dance took place on Saturday night last in the Sin Bin Event Centre in Longford and a very enjoyable night was had by all. Music on the night was provided by Seamus Farrell. Congratulations to Michael Skelly on receiving our Player of the Year Award, Alec McCloughry on receiving our Club Person of the Year Award and also to Mel Fallon and Liam Gouldsbury on being honoured with our Hall of Fame award. It’s a huge event in the Longford GAA calendar and indeed the envy of many other counties. MOSTRIM: Membership is being collected over the coming weeks. Although the closing date is June 1st we encourage all members, especially players, to have theirs paid up by 31st March. The club will accept installments if requested. Mostrim GAA are collecting old mobile phones in order to get a proper cabinet for the defibrillator, they can be given to Tony Garvey, Michael Burke, Tom Victory or any officer of the Club. The players have started a fundraiser to kit out the new gym area in the dressing rooms. The fundraiser is a competition run through a website called sportsprophet.ie where entrants have to predict the winner of 25 sports events throughout the year. Points are awarded throughout the year for correct answers and a league table will be continually updated online. Entry is 10 euro and sheets are available from any of the players. Alternatively, people can go online and enter as Mostrim GAA have our own league on the website. We are trying to push as many people to fill in sheets manually as it might be hard work chasing money from those who have entered online. Closing date is 8th March and entrants can change their answers online up to the deadline (everyone with an email address gets an individual login so no advantage in holding out until last minute). BALLYMORE: Minor Board: Last Saturday we had our registration day and it was great to see such a large turn out. A big thanks to all. Training for all our underage will commence this Saturday March 2nd at 10.30am, if you have not registered your child with our club you can still do so that morning or by contacting any member of the committee. We also invite all parents to a short meeting at 10.30am on the same day. A DVD will be shown with regard to the “Code of Behaviour” within our club and tea/coffee will be served. Just a reminder to all players that it is now compulsory to wear mouth guards at all times while training and playing football. Players who do not have mouth guards will be unable to train and play football. Senior Board: We held our monthly draw in McElvaney’s on Friday night last and Luke O’Reilly won the first prize of one thousand euro while Niall Duncan, Marie Duffy and Brendan Greene won one hundred euro each. Next draw in Creegan’s on the last Friday in March. We had a great turnout at training last week so keep up the good work. LEGAN SARSFIELDS: Our Annual Dinner Dance takes place on Friday 8th March in the Rustic Inn, Abbeyshrule. Music supplied by Dave and the Blue Hats. Tickets are now on sale. We played our first game of 2013 at Flood Park on Sunday morning last. This friendly proved to be a worthwhile exercise with new manager Tom Keena having his first opportunity to see the boys in action. Results of Lotto draw held on Monday 18th February in Slowey’s for a jackpot of 6,150 euro. There was no jackpot winner. Match three winner of 100 euro was Anne Egan, Ferefad, Longford.
RATHCLINE: Commiserations to the Shannon Gaels Novelty Act team in last weekend’s All-Ireland Scór na nÓg final in Derry City. This fantastic journey came to an end as the Tipperary representation claimed the All-Ireland title on Saturday evening. The achievement of reaching the All-Ireland Final marks a fantastic milestone in the history of Shannon Gaels. Team members included: Dearbhail Flood, Shane Kenny, Lauren Guinan, Niall Keane, Laura and Anna Peters, Andrew Ward and Jack O’Loughlin. Great credit must also go the background team and parents for all the work in preparing the act for the highest stage in the land. A very special recognition must go to Maura Tobin who has coached the team to the final. The team has done our parish, county and province proud and we look forward to next year’s competition. At this stage the Club needs to finalise membership with both players and non playing patrons before the end of March deadline. Prices are as follows: 20 euro for non-playing members and 50 euro for players. Peter Skelly will be accepting payment for all non-playing members and Ryan Fallon will be doing likewise with our Club players. Please make every effort to pay membership in the next week or so. Croagh Patrick Sponsorship Walk 2013: This year’s event has been provisionally set for Saturday 11th May. This event is more than just a fundraiser for the club but a social outing for our members, friends and parishioners with a night out in Westport town. Based on previous year’s outings to Croagh Patrick, the club has experienced an enjoyable and rewarding day out with lots of crack in the process. MOYDOW HARPERS: This weeks winning Lotto numbers were 7, 8, 12 and 19. There was no jackpot winner. YOUNG GRATTANS: The first match of 2013 was played last Sunday at Dunbeggan Park against Colmcille. This turned out to be a great game of football and was a very useful game to start the new season. The game stood at a draw into the last minute but the Colmcille lads managed to score a late winning point. Thanks to the Colmcille lads for the game. Training continues this week at the usual times all players are asked to attend. Membership is being collected from all club members, players fee is as last year at 30 euro and non playing members also remains at last year’s fee of 20 euro. Club registrar Kevin Victory will be collecting fees this coming weekend from all players and it is important that all players have their membership paid. We are looking for any old photos of Grattans team to be included in the publication to be issued as part of the official opening of the redeveloped Dunbeggan Park so if you have any photos you can give them to Kevin Victory or any committee member. Last weeks lotto numbers were 5, 9, 14, 27. There was no winner of the jackpot. The following each receive 20 euro each: Elaine Clarke, Michael Tiernan and Rory Howlin. MINOR-CARRICK SARSFIELDS: Mouthguards/Gumshields are now compulsory for all Minor players up to and including minor level. This rules applies to both matches and training sessions. A range of official OPRO GAA/GPA mouthguards are available for purchasing, more information can be found at www.gaa.ie/mouthguards. You will not be permitted to train or play if you do not have a mouthguard/gumshield. We had a registration night on 22nd Feb in the Complex, Carrickedmond. Anyone who has not registered yet can get a form from any Committee member. Registration is 10 euro per child and 20 euro per family. Please pay this ASAP. Training will recommence soon for every age group. Trainers will be in touch to inform each group. MINOR-KILLOE: Our Minors had a useful challenge game v Roscommon Gaels in Roscommon on Sunday. Killoe have eight representatives on County Minor panel: Shane Fitzpatrick, Larry Moran, Paddy Kiernan, Darragh Gilna, Damien Bennett, Ciaran Donohoe, Shane Tully and Fergal O’Donnell. Well done to all. First round of Leinster U-16 League is Saturday next March 2nd with Juveniles away to Donaghmore/Ashbourne of Meath. Training continues at usual time: U-14’s Tuesday/Thursday Juveniles Thursday and Minors Tuesday/Friday. Any outstanding registration can be paid to Colm Hughes or managers at training.
MINOR-SHANNON GAELS: Hard luck to our Novelty Act team in the All-Ireland final of Scór na nÓg in Derry last Saturday. Their performance was tremendous and we are all rightly proud of them. The club would like to thank everyone, right from the very start up to Saturday that helped to make the day possible. The club would like to thank Pauline Flood and Micheál Ó Suilleabhain for travelling to Derry to support the club. A special word to our loyal supporters that have travelled to all the Scór na nÓg events throughout the season. The club would also like to congratulate and thank the Derry County Board for the warmth of their welcome and unbridled assistance throughout the day. The club is seeking 2 teams to travel to climb Croagh Patrick as part of the senior club fundraising. Please make yourself available. Are you available to help out with the club in any way in the coming season? The club is actively seeking assistance of ladies and gentlemen to help in any way during the season, be it coaching, tidying, making tea, first aid and general facilitators. If you are interested please come along to the Code of Conduct briefing that will take place in Clonbonny this Wednesday night 27th at 9.30pm. The minor league and club official activities commences with a local derby against Southern Gaels in Killashee at 12.30 this Sunday morning. There are still a couple of players yet to attend training in this grade and we would encourage them to return immediately. Under 14 training takes place every Sunday in Clonbonny at 11am.
MINOR- ST. FRANCIS, DROMARD: Next weekend sees a number of activities taking place as part of a celebration of the life of Cian Smith. There will be two “Come Dine with Me” nights over the weekend. On Friday March 1st Breffni Arm Hotel Arva will host the “Come Dine with Me” experience and on Saturday March 2nd it will take place in the Piker’s Lodge Gowna. On Sunday March 3rd the celebrations will continue when a fun game with the players who played on the various teams with Cian at 2pm in Pairc na Gael, Dromard. We encourage as many people to attend the game as possible as it will prove to be a game with a difference with a few amusing twists along the way. Refreshments will be available afterwards in the clubhouse. The All-Ireland Senior football Cup, the Sam Maguire, and the All-Ireland Senior Hurling Cup, the Liam McCarthy, will be present on the day. Children and families are welcome to take the opportunity to hold and be photographed with both cups. A number of very sought after items will be auctioned off over the course of the weekend activities namely signed jerseys of the All-Ireland winning Donegal and Kilkenny winning teams, the H Cup winning Leinster rugby team, a Celtic legends selection. Signed footballs from the Longford senior panel and signed sliotars from the Kilkenny team as well a pair of goalkeeper gloves belonging to our own Damien Sheridan will go under the hammer to mention but a few. Our U-12 fun league continued on Sunday last. Good to see a good turnout again. Our minor league campaign commences on Saturday next with an away fixture against Clonbroney at 4.30pm.
