Leader Cup Semi-Final

Leader Cup Semi-Final

Longford Slashers . . . . . 2-4 Dromard . . . . . 0-8

While Longford Slashers defeated Dromard in the senior football league semi-final at Michael Fay Park on Wednesday night, it must be said that Denis Connerton’s understrength side were fortunate to survive in earning another crack at the county champions Killoe Young Emmets in the Leader Cup decider on Sunday December 16th.

When Cian Mimnagh burst his way through to fire over a tremendous point with ten minutes gone in the second half, Dromard were leading by 0-6 to 0-4 and looking the likely winners but soon after the north Longford side suffered a severe setback when a rare mistake by their keeper Damien Sheridan gifted Slashers a crucial goal.

The normally so reliable Sheridan fumbled a Mark Smith free over the line in the 45th minute and while Dromard got back on level terms when Cian Mimnagh converted a free in the 53rd minute, Slashers snatched the victory with a second goal scored by Martin Nevin in the closing stages of this keenly contested encounter.
