Tyrone emphatically brushed aside the feeble challenge afforded by Longford at Healy Park, Omagh on Sunday last on their way to a Division 4 National Hurling League Final showdown with South Down.
ALLIANZ NATIONAL HURLING LEAGUE DIVISION 4 - Tyrone 4-26, 1-8
Tyrone dominated all aspects of play with Stephen Donnelly, Martin Grogan and Damian Maguire quelling the threat of a Longford attack that relied heavily on Eoin Donnellan for scores. Donnellan contributed seven points from play and frees, but in the main, he lacked the necessary support as Tyrone cantered over the line with 27 points to spare at the final whistle.
Justin Kelly led the charge with and impressive 2-9 to his name, while Cathal McErlean 2-2 and Gary Fox 0-5 also can be pleased with their contributions on a day Tyrone had seven different players on target.
Longford enjoyed a dream start to proceedings as Johnny Casey gathered Donnellan’s delivery to rifle past Tyrone goalkeeper Niall Gallagher after only 23 seconds play but were outclassed thereafter as the home side built up a most emphatic 3-14 to 1-5 lead by the break.
Longford managed just three points in the second half through Eoin Donnellan (2) and Eanna Daly
and have plenty to work on ahead of the Lory Meagher Cup clash against Tyrone next month.
