Former Dublin All Star defender Paddy Christie, preparing for his first competitive game in charge of the Longford senior football squad against Laois next Wednesday
New Longford senior football manager Paddy Christie is getting a great response from his extended squad in the build-up to the 2023 season with over 40 players currently in training.
The return of some of the more experienced players, including the McGivney brothers James and David, is a big boost for the new management team that also includes former Mostrim and Longford footballer Michael Kenny.
The other Longford senior selectors are Sligo's Dessie Sloyan (who managed his county's U-20s) along with former Leitrim stalwart James Glancy, who was a selector with their seniors this year alongside manager Andy Moran.
Paddy Christie’s first competitive game as the new Longford supremo will be away to Laois in the opening round of the 2023 O’Byrne Cup in Portarlington on Wednesday night next, January 4, with a 8pm throw-in.
The opening fixture in the pre-season Leinster senior football tournament will be followed by a home game against Carlow at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Saturday, 7 January (2pm) and the remaining group game will be away to Meath in Ashbourne on Wednesday, 11 January (8pm).
The winner of Longford’s group will qualify for the 2023 O’Byrne Cup final which will be played on Friday, 20 January.
