Longford got their Lidl National Football League Division 3B campaign off to a great start when they defeated Wicklow by the fairly comfortable margin of six points at the Rathnew GAA Club grounds on Sunday last.
Longford . . . 1-18 Wicklow . . . 1-12
Both sides used a generous sprinkling of substitutes over the course of the game but it was the Longford side who accommodated the changes with less upset thereby proving more clinical in the second half and giving the promise of a very good season ahead if they can build on this excellent victory.
Leading by 1-9 to 0-9 at half-time with Michelle Farrell scoring the crucial goal just before the break, Longford showed the greater cohesion and impressive ability to run at pace at the Wicklow defence.
Longford manager Brian Noonan will be very pleased with the performance in this positive result and next up is a home game against Kildare in Round 2 of the National League at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park this Sunday, throw-in 2pm.
