Boosted by a brilliant start which yielded three goals in the early stages of the game, Moyne Community School U-16 footballers were crowned Leinster Junior ‘C’ champions following their fine win over Dublin opponents Scoil Chaitriona Glasnevin in the final at the Kinnegad GAA grounds on Friday.

After playing for the Longford U-17s in the Leinster Championship first round game against Westmeath at Allen Park on Thursday night, the energetic Oren McNerney found the back of the net direct from the throw-in and further goals quickly followed from Fionn McCormack Crowe and another county minor Leon Madden.

With Madden also landing a point, rampant Moyne had established a commanding 3-1 to 0-0 lead with just eight minutes gone on the clock and while the Irish speaking Dublin secondary school  were fighting a losing battle, they managed to close the gap with goals from Eoin O Fiachain (16th minute) and Dylan O Gruagain (26th minute).

Backed by a strong wind, Moyne had to be content with a 3-4 to 2-2 lead at the break but stepped up another gear in the second half to register seven more points on their way to a comfortable victory.
