Longford LGFA have appointed Kildare native Dave Lambert from the Confey club based in Leixlip as the new manager of the county ladies football squad.

Complete with his own backroom team, Lambert will lead Longford into action against neighbouring rivals Leitrim in the opening round of the Lidl National League at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Sunday next, throw-in 2pm.

In the build up to the Division 4 campaign, the available players gathered for a training session at the Clonguish GAA grounds on Sunday and it remains to be seen what will happen on the pitch this season with the introduction of the two-point scoring arc one of a  number of rule changes

When the previous manager Brian Farrell (Ardagh) was in control last year, Longford succeeded in reaching the All-Ireland Junior Championship semi-final against the eventual winners Louth.

Dave Lambert has plenty of coaching experience and he was in charge of the Kildare minor (U-18) ladies football team who were beaten 4-13 to 0-14 by Dublin in last year’s Leinster ‘A’ final.
