Gerry Hagan in his acceptance speech after winning the contest for Central Council delegate at the Longford GAA Convention
The narrow margin of just three votes (42-39) separated the two candidates in the contest for Central Council delegate with Gerry Hagan (Killoe) defeating Eamon Reilly (Forgney St Munis) in the contest for Central Council delegate at the annual Longford GAA Convention in the Fr Michael Campbell Parish Centre in Abbeylara on Thursday night last.
Hagan is back as a member of the County Board executive, having served in a number of other positions in the past, while elected unopposed in the role of the new Coaching Officer is Seamus Boyle from the Ballymore club.
In the only contest at the Convention, Cllr Hagan takes over from James Clarke (Clonguish) who stepped down after completing the maximum five year term in the same position.
The outgoing Vice-Chairperson Micheal Mulleady (Fr Manning Gaels) and the outgoing Leinster Council representative Gerry Forde (Ardagh Moydow) decided not to seek re-election in vacating their places on the executive
