Rathcline’s Oran Kenny holds the mantle as the top scorer in the 2025 Peter Hanley Motors Longford Senior Football Championship as we head into the final, Colmcille v Killoe, this Sunday.
Top 10 from Play
Kenny is twelve points clear of his nearest rival with a most impressive 4-47 to his name. It will take a replay of the county final for the Rathcline ace to be caught unless Barry McKeon (Colmcille) or Paddy Moran (Killoe) can produce the game of their lives in Sunday’s decider.
McKeon and Moran are far and away the shining scoring stars for their sides and both will likely climb further up the ladder barring an injury or complete failure on the dead balls in the final.
Michael Flynn holds second place at the moment with his impressive tally of 3-6 in the quarter-final win over Dromard, his best display in another fine championship for the youngster. He is accompanied by his teammates Jack Duggan and Matthew Carey in the top 10 of the total and from play leaderboard showcasing the free scoring nature of the Clonguish side.
Duggan’s tally of 3-7 against Fr. Manning Gaels was the highest individual tally from a single game and his championship total carried out mostly from midfield was impressively all scored from play.
Duggan, who scored the most goals in the championship, finishes just behind Oran Kenny on the in play scoring charts who outstandingly tops the field in both categories.
Oran is joined by his brother Shane in the total top 10 who was the only player in the championship to fire over a two pointer from a line ball. The eldest of the Kenny brothers had another superb year of placekicking and he kicked the joint most amount of total two pointers along with Barry McKeon to date. McKeon also kicked the most two pointers from play tied with Dromard’s Aaron Farrell who sits in the top 10 from play.
Dromard’s evergreen Francis McGee is in the total top 10 scores once again and was the only player in the championship this year to score a goal from a free when he blasted home from 13m against Killoe in the group stage. How high would his total have been down through the years under the current playing rules.
In old currency, there would be many changes to the positions on the leaderboard though Oran Kenny would still remain atop. Paddy Moran is the only player in the top 10 who hasn’t notched a single two pointer so he would comfortably be in second place under the old playing rules.
Carrickedmond’s Aidan McGuire and Eoghan McCormack finished inside the top 10 as they led their side to a first quarter final in 4 years.
Jamie Brady Hynes is the only player from a side who faced into the relegation battle that takes a place on either list with 2-12 from play to his name after his best championship display for Granard.
