Unlucky losers after extra-time in a thriller against Longford Slashers in the first series of relegation play-offs the previous weekend, it finally came good for Granard who stormed to a most emphatic win over Dromard at the splendidly redeveloped Pairc na nGael on Saturday evening.

St Mary’s Granard . . . 0-24    Dromard . . . 0-15

Powered by crucial two-pointers, St Mary’s held a slender 0-9 to 0-7 lead at the break but pulled away in the second half to retain their top flight league status with midfielder Darren Gallagher the chief marksman.

The influential Gallagher clocked up a total of 7 points as Granard gave their championship hopes a boost whereas Dromard (minus key players) are relegated to the Division 2 league next year by virtue of this disappointing defeat.
