Regardless of the low standard of the opposition, the win over Waterford was a bit of a boost for the Longford manager Mike Solan and his players.

Just a couple of points separated the sides in the finish at wet and windy Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Sunday last in a very hard earned first success in the National League this season.

The physically stronger Waterford side hit the front with time running out but Longford snatched a lucky victory thanks to a two-pointer free converted by Matthew Carey with Daniel Reynolds also on target in stoppage time.

Longford were very relieved indeed to hear the sound of the final whistle and they will be heading to London this weekend in a cautious state of mind.

Backed by a big contingent of supporters who are making the trip to watch the Division 4 game in McGovern Park, Ruislip on Sunday (throw-in 12.30pm), the visitors might experience some difficulty getting the better of a revitalised London outfit who will be brimming with confidence.

Building on their wonderful win at home to Wicklow, the Exiles sprang another significant surprise to overturn the previously unbeaten Tipperary in Thurles on Saturday evening last thanks to a last gasp two-pointer from impressive midfielder Liam Gallagher when a draw was looking poised to materialise.

Former Donegal attacker Ciaran Diver, who scored 1-3 at Semple Stadium, is also a key figure on the London team who are capable of causing another upset and this is a tricky task for the favourites  Longford!
