A long club season comes to a conclusion on Sunday next with the under 21 ‘A’ and ‘B’ Football Championship Finals scheduled for Glennon Brothers Pearse Park.

The double bill starts at 12.30pm with the meeting of the amalgamations, Carrickedmond/Legan Sarsfields v Southern Gaels (Cashel/Killashee) and both teams are unbeaten going into the ‘B’ title decider.

On the evidence of their comprehensive 2-7 to 0-3 win over Dromard in the semi-final on Sunday last, the vote goes to Carrickemond/Legan whereas Southern Gaels were fortunate to overcome the difficult challenge of Young Grattans by a single point, 1-9 to 0-11.

While Ballymahon/Kenagh beat Killoe twice in the ‘A’ Championship with the amalgamation coming out on top (2-5 to 0-7) in the semi-final last weekend, the south Longford side are facing a very tough task against the strong Clonguish team in the ‘A’ title decider (throw-in 2.15pm).

With the exceptional Matthew Carey leading the charge in a sharp attack, the boys in green cruised through the group stage in emphatic unbeaten fashion which included a comfortable 2-12 to 0-8 victory over Ballymahon/Kenagh.

It will be a big shock should Clonguish fail to complete a three-in-a-row of Longford U-21 ‘A’ titles and yet another underage success for the Newtownforbes outfit is the probable outcome.
