The landslide margin of 30 points separated the sides in the end as the Longford senior hurling champions Wolfe Tones crashed to a crushing defeat against Castletown Liam Mellows in the Leinster Club Junior Championship quarter-final clash at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Saturday.

Castletown Liam Mellows (Wexford) . . . 6-18  Wolfe Tones Mostrim . . . 0-6

From the moment Marc Halpin scored the opening goal for the far superior Wexford Junior champions with seven minutes gone in the game, the floodgates opened up as Wolfe Tones were washed away in a mismatch.

The Edgeworthstown outfit had to wait a couple of months to play this provincial fixture but it did not matter such was the gulf in class and this futile exercise proved to be nothing more than target practice for the runaway winners who were in a commanding 2-15 to 0-3 lead at the break.
