With the dangermen Dessie and Daniel Reynolds inflicting most of the damage, Sean Connolly's are back for another crack at winning the Gerry Hennessy Cup after knocking Killashee out.

The deadly duo clocked up a total of 1-8 between them with Dessie capitalising on a costly mistake in the St Brigid’s defence to score the crucial goal in the 22nd minute of the Intermediate Football Championship semi-final at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Sunday.

The Ballinalee side built up a commanding 1-9 to 0-6 lead at the break but there was a glimmer of hope for Killashee when Paddy Mollaghan blasted the ball to the net in the early stages of the second half.

A cracking point from wing back Ronan McGreal eased the pressure on Connolly’s but gallant St Brigid’s never gave up the fight and would have got closer but for some poor finishing in the final quarter of the contest.

Five wides in a row led to their eventual downfall before Dan Farrell made the victory secure for Connolly’s after he smacked the ball over the bar from close range when a goal was there for the taking in the 57th minute.

That ended a barren spell for Michael Lynch’s side which lasted almost 20 minutes and they will not be able to afford the same luxury in the eagerly awaited county final against Fr Manning Gaels on Sunday October 20.
