Ballymore . . . 1-9  Mullinalaghta . . . 1-5

The better team for most of the Junior ‘A’ Final at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Saturday morning, Ballymore were crowned the Tier 3 county champions with the comfortable margin of four points to spare over neighbouring rivals Mullinalaghta.

The return of Aisling Reynolds was a big boost for Ballymore who held a narrow 0-7 to 1-2 lead at the break but were firmly in control from the moment they got their decisive goal from Elizabeth Kearney with a couple of minutes gone on the changeover.

Mullinalaghta tried hard to get back in contention after a goal from Korah Darcy in the 19th minute of the first half had kept their titles hopes alive but they were unable to match superior Ballymore who produced a fine overall team effort to emerge victorious with full-back Eileen Boyle receiving the player of the match award.

Attacker Caroline Kiernan played a prominent role in the scoring stakes in shooting four points (all from play), the same total as the influential midfielder Aisling Reynolds (all frees) as Martin Reilly’s charges now look forward to representing Longford in the Leinster Club Junior Championship.

BALLYMORE: Deirdre Monaghan; Ciara Heaney, Eileen Boyle, Shauna Heaney; Zara Drake, Sorcha Dawson, Elizabeth Kearney (1-0); Grace McEvoy, Aisling Reynolds (0-4, all frees); Molly Boyle, Marie Martin, Alanna Kelly; Caroline Kiernan (0-4), Aoife Reilly, Aoife Dawson (0-1).

Subs used (second half):- Rachel Cassidy for M Boyle; Megan Creegan for A Reilly; Nicole Neilon for A Dawson.

Correction: No. 16 Deirdre Monaghan was the Ballymore keeper on the team that started in the final and not Aileen Browne as previously stated in the match report.

MULLINALAGHTA: Amanda Matthews: Edel Biggins, Carmel McGivney, Antoinette Reilly; Ella Brady, Caroline McGivney, Peyton O’Reilly; Ella O’Reilly (0-1), Korah Darcy (1-0); Edel Sheehy (0-3, all frees), Lauren Burke, Eliane McGivney; Aideen Donoghue, Rosa Lynch, Aisling Scanlon.

Subs used:- Laura Cunningham for A Scanlon (injured, 28 mins); Siobhan Leonard, Kateri Gilna (0-1), Alanna Browne and Emma Dalton.

Referee: Mark Glancy (Rathcline).
