Two clubs with a great championship tradition are facing a fierce battle to survive in the current Connolly Cup campaign.

Both Clonguish and Longford Slashers let a commanding advantage slip in their respective games against Mullinalaghta and Carrickedmond last weekend.

It is unquestionably the tightest group ever since this particular format was introduced some years ago with little or nothing separating the six clubs and the destination of the quarter-final places is going right down to the wire.

There are no Senior or Intermediate fixtures scheduled for this weekend in a welcome break from the usual packed programme.

The ball will start rolling again in the top of the table clash between unbeaten Killoe and Rathcline in the other group on Friday week (August 23) with both teams already qualified.
