While Killoe just failed in their bid to win the Leinster Senior Football League Division 1 title, their participation in this competition was a very useful exercise in the build up to the start of the county championship at the end of July.

Thomas Davis (Dublin) . . . 4-7   Killoe Emmet Og . . . 1-11

Crucial goals proved to be the decisive factor in the cracking final at the Johnstownbridge GAA grounds, Co Kildare on Thursday evening and the matchwinning score for Thomas Davis (Tallaght) came from a penalty converted by the ever dangerous full-forward Conor Guilfoyle in the first minute of stoppage time.

Paddy Kiernan, back in action for Emmet Og this season after spending some time in Australia, was the driving force at midfield alongside Longford regular Ryan Moffett as Killoe came storming back from four points down to take the lead in the 52nd minute after Mark Hughes shot over the bar.

That was really putting it up to Thomas Davis but they produced a strong finish to register 1-3 without reply, the points coming from Guilfoyle (2) and Ryan Deegan as they emerged victorious in this entertaining encounter.

Minus the services of Michael Quinn, Daniel Mimnagh, James Moran, Larry Moran, Darren Moffett, Ronan Keogh and Niall Farrelly for different reasons, Killoe are clearly serious contenders in the battle for the Connolly Cup under the guidance of their vastly experienced manager Luke Dempsey.
