Longford made it two consecutive wins in the Lory Meagher Cup with a crucial four-point victory over Leitrim in Shane McGettigan Park in Drumshanbo on Sunday last, a result that keeps their hopes of making the Croke Park Final for a second successive year very much alive, while at the same time all but extinguishing Leitrim’s title ambitions.

Longford . . . 0-12    Leitrim . . . 0-8

Cathal Mullane was the top scorer for the  visitors with six points, David Buckley fired over three points, Paddy Lynam registered two points, while Reuben Murray got Longford’s other score.

Despite this crucial win, Longford still have room for improvement as they registered fifteen wides over the course of the match and their conversion rate was just forty percent, scoring from just twelve of their thirty shots.

Also, Longford only won forty-two percent of their own puck-outs, so those areas need to be rectified ahead of the crunch home game against Cavan in a couple of weeks time.
