Longford bounced back from the disappointment of losing to Lancashire in the Lory Meagher Cup the previous weekend when they scored a wonderful win over Warwickshire in the Round 2 clash at Glennon Brothers Pearse Park on Sunday last.

Longford . . . 2-23  Warwickshire . . . 1-9

Adrian Moran’s charges were really fired up to make amends for the setback in the opening round of the Senior Hurling Championship and produced a terrific first half performance to build up a massive 0-19 to 0-3 lead at the break.

Leading the way in the scoring spree were Reuben Murray (0-4), Cathal Mullane (0-4) and attacking wing back Evan Tully (0-3) and Longford could have been even further ahead with a clear-cut goal attempt from Charles Flynn well saved by the opposing keeper Patrick Hands in the 28th minute.

After scoring a surprise win over the National League Division 3B champions Cavan in the first round of the Lory Meagher Cup, this one-sided affair turned out to be a tale of woe for Warwickshire who were whacked by the much superior home side.

Reuben Murray (40th minute) and Paddy Lynam (44th minute) scored the goals for Longford in the second half with Niall Eames grabbing a consolation goal for the Exiles in the closing stages of the game.

Longford emerged victorious by the wide margin of 17 points and will head for Drumshanbo on Sunday next (switched from Saturday) in a confident frame of mind for the make or break clash against Leitrim in Round 3 of the Lory Meagher Cup.
